Review: House of Roots and Ruin

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Holy crap. This book was absolutely INSANE. I’ve never seen so many twists and turns. The second you think you’ve figured out the mystery, another twist throws you off again. I’m still reeling from the end of the novel to be honest.
How can I even begin, but also be careful of spoilers? So Verity sees ghosts. But she doesn’t realize it until she’s 17 and asks to leave the grounds to travel to Bloem. She’s been asked to paint the beautiful heir to the Duchy who is paralyzed.
Her sister Camille refuses her request, worried that Verity will be seen as mad by others and sent to an asylum. But Verity wants to live, and leaves in the dead of night without her sisters permission. Then she arrives at Bloem and finds herself equally terrified and enchanted by the massive gothic manor and grounds. And Alex…the absolutely charming, caring soul who she falls for heart and soul…UNTIL she begins to unravel the tragic and horrific circumstances surrounding Bloem and Alex’s paralysis. As the truth begins to unravel, she’s forced to confront death and tragedy with the hope to save all she loves.
SPOILER: HOLY SHIT. AT THE END, THE EYES. AS SOON AS I SAW THST HIS EYES HAD BEEN HURT- I KNEW IT WANT ALEX. FFS
