Review: Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1)Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great characters and a gritty, dark fantasy world. The Thuve’s and the Shotets are natural enemies who share one planet in a vast galaxy. The Shotet’s wish fur more say in their government which starts an endless cycle of violence and kidnappings.

Eijeh, a young prophet, is kidnapped along with his brother, Akos, and brought to the twisted, tyrannical Shotet ruler, Ryzek. There they are tortured and Eijeh is slowly forced to trade his memories with the ruler’s, Ryzek.

Cyra’s gift is to give endless pain, and her brother curves her to use it against her will. When she falls in love with Akos, her literal opposite, she will do whatever it takes to protect the only person she’s ever loved.
